Candidate StatementI welcome the opportunity to represent your best interests. I will pay close attention to details, I will fight for us, Listen to you, visit our cities frequently to access the issues first hand, and address your concerns to the best of my ability. I will be available to receive your telephone calls, respond to your voice mail messages, and respond to your letters. You will be able to count on me. I will build partnerships among the cities in the district. I will continue to work for you, from the first day I take office as Council Member, through the last day of my term. In speaking with the people who live in our district, it is clear, that: We, the People, feel abandoned and afraid to venture too far from our homes at night. The streets are dark and there are not enough street lights and sidewalks. Our needs, concerns and desires have been ignored. Our district is impoverished. Our district is not amoung the list of priorities. With your support, we can make a difference and accomplish effective changes within our communities. As Council Member, I will... Support the expansion of the LAPD, Reduce police response times, Pave the streets with light, Have sidewalks installed, Have abandoned cars removed, Demand that our streets are swept and trash is removed, Implement beautification programs, and summer programs for our children. We are a group of cities with people from various ethnic backgrounds, yet it is not reflected in our businesses, in the activities or within the schools in our communities. I want everyone in our district to feel welcomed. Therefore, I will work with local organizations to bring parades to our communities to celebrate many holidays and events such as: Chinese New Years, Veteran's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Kwanza, Yom Kippur, Christmas, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Native American Pow Wows, Cinco de Mayo, Juneteeth, and celebrations that represent the true ethnicity in our communities. During my recent visits to our cities, the People of our district asked me: "Why do we not have our own movie theater?" "Why are there no bookstores?" "Why do we have to drive for miles to find the closest shopping mall, specialty store or 4-5 star restaruants?" I understand. I have asked these questions since I moved to Sylmar in 1999 and have yet to receive an answer. Therefore: I will contact corporations, negotiate big business ventures, including clothing stores, restaurants, bookstores, and speciality stores. I will hire Professional Realtors to assist the corporations in finding buildings and vacant lots to accomodate their ventures into our cities. In doing so, I will create more employment opportunities for the residents of District 7, sales opportunities for Realtors, and bring significant revenue into our cities. I AM LISTENING AND I HEAR YOU, DISTICT 7. Clearly, it is time for a change. When you receive your gray ballot envelope at the polls, in that moment you will have the power to make a change. Write in Maggie Campbell, Council Member for Distict 7. |
