We need a vibrant downtown. To do any shopping now I have to drive to Turlock, Ceres, or Waterford all approximately 7 miles away. We need a downtown that is alive, not a street with stores that are seldom open. Many locations are really being used as warehouses. We need to really fix Charles Street downtown before someone loses their car's front end. The street is bad. Along with the downtown, the City, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Stanislaus Economic Development and Workforce Alliance need to work together to get the technology firms from the Bay Area that are looking for ways to lower costs to come here. We have cheaper labor, cheaper electricity, corporate travel, office leases, etc. to offer (See of 9-27-04 Modesto Bee's front page--http://www.modbee.com).
