Mayor; City of Patterson

First, we need to get to the bottom of the financial mess at City Hall. Five years ago, November 11, 2000, the City Treasurer, Charles Lindner, asked me to set up a meeting with the City Manager, Mayor and the Finance Department to question why the City's bank statements were not reconciling to the City's general ledger.

The meeting was held and some of the recommendations were implemented, but not all.

There were early indicators of problems. I brought them to the attention of the Mayor and City staff and some of the most important obeservations and recommendations were ignored. We were told that all of the proper financial management practices were in good order. The City's auditors also reveiwed our books every year and made no mention of a problem. They must also share responsibility.

As your Mayor, I will make sure that, if there is any criminal activity, the persons involved will be prosecuted to the the fullest extent of the law and that the proper accounting proceedures are put into place.

As your Mayor, I will work hard to restore public trust in our city and will use my leadership skills and business background to guide the city through this process.
