I support small businesses

By Carl L. Mariz

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 70

This information is provided by the candidate
Small businesses are the engines that drive increasing employment. The first need of small businesses is access to capital. As an assemblyperson, I would see to it that small businesses have such access.
Small businesses are the engines that drive increasing employment, not large corporations. My daughter is a small-business owner. She and her partner run a successful coffee shop in Ojai and employ four workers. She has told me that the most serious problem facing small businesses is access to capital. The old adage that a bank will not lend you money unless you can prove you don't need it is unfortunately too often true. The federal government has made funds available to small businesses through the small business administration loan program. If such funds disappear, then the state should step in. As long as reasonable care is taken in the granting of these loans, the cost to taxpayers should be minimal as these loans will be repaid with interest.
