Full Biography for Timothy Lee Johnson

Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, I moved with my parents to the central coast of California in 1970. After graduating from high school in 1974, I joined the military where I served two assignments overseas and one stateside. Following my honorable discharge in 1979, I moved to the Sacramento area where I began college and worked full-time jobs that fit my class schedule.
In 1981, I received licensure to work in community mental health centers, drug and alcohol treatment programs and as a counselor in correctional facilities. Over the next 12 years, I gained a good deal of experience in the terrible consequences of government's increased intervention in our health care system. Also, my work experience in county jails and prisons led me to the realization that our antiquated drug laws and prison system crisis must be addressed immediately.
In 1993, I sold my nurse staffing business and served mostly on a consultant basis to small and start-up businesses. In 1996, I relocated back to Las Vegas for family reasons and returned to California in 1998. I was living in Fountain Valley, Ca. when I decided to pursue political office and registered as a Libertarian candidate for the state senate seat of the 35th district. I relocated in May 0f 2004 to Laguna Niguel. While this is slightly outside of my district, I continue to run in the 35th district (approximately a mile and a half away). I presently work as a manufacturers representative in the electronic security industry. Family
I was adopted as a newborn and had no brothers or sisters. My Dad was a contractor/homebuilder and died in 1996. My Mom is happily sewing quilts in the Salton Sea area. I married in 1980, had two beautiful children, Kristi and Jonathan, and lived in the Sacramento area. Though the marriage ended in 1986, my children remain the best and most important part of my life. Political Experience While I've never been elected to public office, I have worked in political campaigns since I was a teen in Las Vegas. My more recent work was in a California assembly race in 1994 and then in Las Vegas for various campaigns in '96 and '98. The first office I was a candidate for was Orange County Water District in 2002. My political ideas have evolved as a matter of my life's experiences in both my carrer and in the various campaigns I was involved with. The specifics of my political ideas and philosophies can be found elsewhere on this web site. |
