Global WarmingBy Pat GrayCandidate for United States Representative; District 12 | |

The Pentagon has stated that global warming is the most serious threat to the security of our nation.Global warming is a fact of life today on planet Earth. Severe climate change--and with it chains of storms, floods, heat waves, droughts, and even cold snaps--is now virtually inevitable, as is widespread ecological destruction, extinction and human suffering. The global warming crisis has given rise to a unique scientific body, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC). The climate on our planet is changing due to human activity. The government of the United States is not acting intelligently on this issue. The Bush II administration has chosen to reject the Koyoto Protocol, deny the consequences of oil dependency and define the politics of oil as the politics of military domination and war. The United States needs to ratify the Kyoto Protocol and move ahead from there to sustainable development for both the developed nations of the northern hemisphere and the developing nations of the south. We must move forward of ways to create sustainablilty which is both equitable and adequate for nations of the north and south. The rich will have to learn to share the wealth of the earth so that we all can survive. |
