Sending a Green to CongressBy Pat GrayCandidate for United States Representative; District 12 | |

Our federal govenment is not working in the interests of the working people of our nation. The great majority of voters in this Congessional District are registered as Democrats, but there are a growing number who are registered as 'decline to state'. This is an indication that more people are becoming dissatisfied with our two party system. To solve the problems before our nation today, we need more than two points of view. We need to consider the ideas and concerns of all kinds of people. A multi party democracy is preferable to the limitations of just two political parties. I was born and raised as a Democrat. I was pleased when Clinton was elected President and I expected gains for the working people of this nation. To my distress, under the Clinton administration, Congress passed NAFTA, the End of Welfare as we know it and failed to pass a national health care program. The Democrats and Republicans had melded into a single party funded by, and working for, the corporations and people of great wealth. I changed my registration to the Green Party. I support the ten key values of the Green Party; Grassroots Democracy, Social Justice and Equal Opportunity, Ecological Wisdom, Non-Violence, Decentralization, Community based Economics, Feminism and Gender Equality, Respect for Diversity, Personal and Global Responsibility and Sustainability. There is no one in Congress today who holds these values. I think that these values are the key to creating a world of peace and justice on a healthy planet. When we have the first Green Party Representative in Congress we will have someone who will not value corporate profits over life. |
