I would work on the process in which the Board of Education receives its information. I would directly include teachers and site administrators, as well as the parents, in the Board's decision making process. Before a major policy decision is made at the Board level, the item should be agendized at school site department and staff meetings. The input from the schools should then be presented to the Board of Education. Those working closest to the students, the teachers and the site administrators (those who have direct contact with the parents), often have very practical and workable ideas for educational reform. The Board must listen to them carefully and with perspective enact those changes necessary to facilitate student learning.
