Dear Neighbor, Our children and schools are very important to our community, of which I am a part, therefore I have decided to run for one of the two seats available on the South San Francisco School Board in the upcoming election on November 2nd. If elected, I will make every effort to work together with you on behalf and for the benefit of our children - they truly deserve our best efforts. There are some issues we can work together on: Improving Student Performance The San Francisco Chronicle and the California Department of Education recently noted that only six percent of our reported High School students are proficient in Math. For the last several years our scores have decreased and we must do better now! There is a plan that other Bay Area school districts have used successfully to improve their test scores and should be implemented in our own schools. Creating Comprehensive Work Training Too many of our students are going into the workforce ill-prepared for the evolving business environment - and our falling test scores reflect that trend. Nearly 75% of California High School students enter the workforce after high school, and we can push for a comprehensive work training program that will get them ready for good jobs. Developing More Local Funding We can develop local funding for much needed school services and programs. Through the creation of an Endowment Fund private residents and businesses can significantly invest towards local education. Major colleges and universities have done this for decades and so have an increasing number of innovative K-12 school districts. These are innovative, yet necessary steps to improve our schools. I ask for your consideration for one of two seats available on November 2nd so together we can work for a better future! |
