COUNCIL SHOULD'NT ALLOW POLITICAL PROMOTION

By Brahama D. Sharma, Ph.D.

Candidate for Mayor; City of Pismo Beach

This information is provided by the candidate
The promotion of personal or citizen political agenda using official City Council time is illegal
The present City Council members who are candidates for the office of Mayor of Pismo Beach in Nov 2 election indulged in promoting themselves and other political agenda using offical time of City Council meeting on September 21, 2004.

This is illegal and shows that these candidates are not qualified to be presiding officers, as the present election of the Mayor of Pismo Beach is simply an election of the presiding officer as per the municipal code and nothing else.

Video program of the Council meeting of September 21, 2004, proves the same.

One can visit the website http://www.timespressrecorder.com/articles/2004/09/24/viewpoint/viewpoint02.prt to show the Letter to the editor, pointing this out, on September 24, 2004 in TIMES PRESS RECORDER

The letter is reproduced here as it seems the above website is not accessible by some. _______________________________________________

  • "Council shouldn't allow political promotion

  • To the Editor:

  • The promoting of a political agenda for one person or the *citizenry by any council member, as was done in the Pismo *Beach City Council meeting Sept. 21, is in violation of *the city's Municipal Code.

  • The present mayor needs to be credited for pointing out *the violation, but he was very astute in pointing out the *violation in a manner that continued to promote the *political agenda, giving comfort to the promotion of the *political agenda by candidates for the upcoming election.

  • Brahama D. Sharma

  • Mayoral candidate

  • Pismo Beach" ___________________________________________________________

  • This illlegal activity by the two candidates on the City *Council seeking the office of presiding officer as
  • mayor of Pismo Beach must be kept in mind.
