Shall the number of members of the Board of Directors of the Ben Lomond Fire Protection District be increased from three to five?

Impartial Analysis from County Counsel
State law provides that a fire protection district board may consist of three, five, seven, nine or eleven members. The Ben Lomond Fire Protection Board currently consists of three members.

State law permits a fire protection district to increase the number of its board members if a majority of voters voting on the question are in favor of that change. The Board of Directors of the Ben Lomond Fire Protection District has submitted this measure to the voters within the district to determine whether the number of board members should be increased from three to five.

A "yes" vote is a vote in favor of increasing the number of members of the Ben Lomond Fire Protection District Board of Directors from three to five.

A "no" vote is against increasing the number of members of the Ben Lomond Fire Protection District Board of Directors.

Arguments For Measure U Arguments Against Measure U
The Ben Lomond Fire Protection District supports Measure U, which increases the Ben Lomond Fire Protection District Board of Directors from three to five. For over 100 years the Ben Lomond Fire Protection District has provided emergency medical and fire protection to the residents of Ben Lomond. The current three-member Board governs a District which has grown to serve nearly 4,000 people. We, the Board of Directors and the Fire Chief, support Measure U

Increasing the number of Board members to five allows for:

o More community involvement on the Board

o More efficiency in the Board's role in the Fire District

o More representation for district related matters

o Improved alignment with the spirit of the Ralph M. Brown Act

o A wider range of input

o More communication and flexibility between Board members

o The formation of Board committees to address Fire District issues

The citizens of the Ben Lomond Fire Protection District will benefit from the more diverse views this change will bring to the Fire District.

Please vote yes on Measure U
