As a lifelong member of San Jose's East Side Community, throughout my life I had the opportunity to experience life in several of our cities neighborhoods. As a child in grade school, I attended San Antonio Elementary in the renowned Sal Si Puedes Neighborhood (now known as Si Se Puede). As I entered High School, I became part of the Mount Pleasant Community when I enrolled in Mount Pleasant High School. As I entered college my desire to serve my community grew, this was evidence in my participation in school governance. I participated in student government and eventually I was elected Student Trustee to the San Jose Evergreen Community College Dist. from 01 - 03. As I went through higher education I found that my civic involvement could not be contained to within my college but I began to take a part in the regional governance and ultimately in the state governance of the Higher Ed. Advocacy Association, CalSACC. Within this association, I served as Policy Board Rep (PBR). The position of PBR afforded me the opportunity to take part in the organizing of the first 10,000 student march for Higher Education in Sacramento. Desiring further participation in Public service, I searched for opportunities to hone my leadership abilities. I thereafter, received an internship with Congresswoman Lofgren CA-16th. During my internship, I was able to experience governance first hand; I reviewed legislation and drafted memos, among other things. I also was admitted into the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, where I was afforded the opportunity to interact with all the members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. I not only interacted but also was mentored by the creation of close ties to some of the members of Congress. I currently am part of the team that is developing the Equal Employment Opportunity Plan for California's Community Colleges. I also have had the opportunity to work for the U.S. District Court, Northern Dist. of California, Pretrial Services Office. My involvement and commitment to my community continues as is evidenced by participation in this race. I know my record demonstrates my commitment and ability to carryout the duties that are part of being a member of the governing board. Help me help our community, Vote Quintero this Nov. 2nd Thank you, Andrés Quintero |
