I was raised on a small vegetable farm near Lancaster, PA. In addition to learning the meaning of hard work on the farm, I developed an interest in the scientific side of agriculture. After graduation from high school, I followed my interest and enrolled in Cornell University in 1966. The late 60s were turbulent years on many college campuses, including Cornell. I learned a lot about politics and our political system. After graduation in 1970, I spent several years traveling and working various jobs until I decided to enter graduate school. I finished my PhD program in Plant Breeding in 1981. My first job took my wife and me to Italy, where we spent five interesting years. Upon return to the US, my new position brought our family, now including our young son, to the Gilroy area. During our oldest son's last years at GHS, it became clear that there were deficiencies in the curriculum at the High School. While working with a group of concerned parents to address these issues, I came to the conclusion that the best way to effect changes is from the inside, as a Board member. This is why I am now running for a School Board seat, and ask for your support on November 2nd. |
