I was born in West Germany into a military family. I got to travel a lot and spent a lot of exciting time in Germany, Texas, Colorado and Alabama. In 1979, I graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Following graduation I worked for many years as an electrical engineer on communication systems and instrumentation systems for Martin Marietta Corporation in Denver and FMC Corporation in San Jose. I also continued my studies and in 1987 received a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University. My desire to learn and a need for a career which would help people, led me to return to school full-time again. In 1992 I received a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California Berkeley School of Optometry. After graduation, I volunteered to go to Madras, India, to teach optics and contact lens theory at the Elite School of Optometry and at the Sankara Nethralaya Medical Research Foundation for four months. I am a member of the American Optometric Association and the Santa Clara County Optometric Society. I have owned and managed a private practice since 1993. My wife and I have been in the south bay area for decades and are now very busy raising our two young girls who are in elementary school. I am a strong supporter of the public school system and I am very dedicated to ensuring high quality education for all of the children in this district for years to come. |
