Political Philosophy for Jonny D. Wallis

As a GoletaNow! founder, in 2001 I ran for Goleta's first city council. I promised to protect our neighborhoods, existing businesses, and environment; increase recreational opportunities; provide municipal services; pace growth to our carrying capacity; and ensure Goleta's fiscal health. Once elected to council, I kept my promises. To protect our neighborhoods, I supported high service levels, including street and sidewalk repairs and tree maintenance. I supported remodels of the Fairview Shopping Center and the former Applied Magnetics property as well as a new building at the Fairview Corporate Center that brought 200 jobs. Goleta's unique open space and coastal resources deserve protection, and I worked hard to preserve Ellwood Mesa for future generations. I required that new projects serve community needs and pay their own way, and I demanded a balanced, pay-as-you-go budget that delivers services and maintains healthy reserves. Many challenges and opportunities lie ahead for Goleta: creating a general plan, revitalizing Old Town, rehabilitating and expanding affordable housing, improving transportation systems, increasing recreation, and keeping our businesses strong. I'm committed to serving Goleta, my home for thirty-five years. I look forward to continuing the work I've begun. |
