About the Candidate
Bernard "Bee Jay" Jones was born in Pleasanton California on August 19, 1957. His father was in the U.S. Air Force, and as a result, he grew up and was educated in several stateside locations and in Germany. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, TX in 1974. Graduating from Southwest Texas State University, with a BS in Physics, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force in 1978. While stationed at Johnson Space Center (NASA) in Houston, Texas, Bee Jay obtained a Masters of Arts degree in Public Administration in 1988. His first assignment to California was to Los Angeles AFB in 1988. He was transferred here to Vandenberg AFB as the SLC-4 Titan Complex Manger in 1992. Bee Jay retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel in September of 2001, and has since been working on Vandenberg AFB as a Senior Engineer with General Dynamics. In 2002, Supervisor Joni Gray appointed him as a commissioner on the Human Relations Commission. He is married to the former Sylvia Mack of Santa Maria, and between them they have seven children and three grandchildren (one more due in January). They reside in Mesa Oaks, just outside of Lompoc.
