I am running for re-election to the Vandenberg Village Community Services District (VVCSD) Board of Directors. 2004 completes my tenth year living in the Village, and my fourth year of service on the Board. When the U.S. Air Force assigned me to Vandenberg AFB in August 1994 as Chief of Surgery, I chose to live in Vandenberg Village, and remained here after retirement. I am a physician and teacher by training and a life-long naturalist by avocation. As a physician, I am acutely aware of the value of safe, reliable water to our overall health. In addition to dedicated service on the Board, I am in my fourth year of advanced studies at Cal Poly. Other activities include the Lompoc Valley Botanic and Horticultural Society (President), California Native Plant Society (local chapter Vice-president), part-time work with Vandenberg AFB Natural Resource Protection, and SB County Weed Management Area. The Village faces many unique challenges including, major improvements in our regional waste water treatment plant, interest in water quality improvement, increasing demands on our finite groundwater resources, and a proposed division of the County. I will consider these and other issues from three perspectives: How they directly affect the VVCSD operations; how they affect our over-all quality of life; and how they relate to wider area concerns. I will continue to apply my broad scientific background and on-going interests to bear on behalf of my fellow citizens. The Village will be well served by returning me to the District Board! |
