This information is provided by the candidate
Robert Tomasini's experience, knowledge of the Roseville Area, and devotion to public education make him the most qualified and best candidate to represent Area Three on the Sierra Joint Community College Board of Trustees.
I am serving on the board and running for re-election because education is my life and I believe that my understanding and knowledge of public education with its special culture, requirements and procedures that need to be followed have helped me to make a difference in the way the board is now operating.

I retired as the Superintendent of the Roseville Jt. UHSD in 2000 after a career of 41 years in public education. Before coming to Roseville, I was a high school teacher, Jr. High School Vice-Principal, High School Principal, Assist. Supt. and Superintendent of a Unified School District.

The philosophy that I used as a teacher and administrator and what I am using now as a board member is: That people are more important than things and the most important people are students. When I make decisions as a board member, I always try to focus on what's best for students.

Public Education has been my career and my life. All of my children have gone to public schools for their k-12 education and all have graduated from college. Three of my children have attended Community College and four have graduated form California State Universities. I had four in College at one time, so I know what it costs and the sacrifices that need to be made to put a student through college.

I have worked and lived in Roseville since coming to the High School District in 1989. During my tenure as the Superintendent of RJUHSD, I worked closely with the Roseville City Manager and council, local business leaders and Placer County Supervisors and County staff. Also, I worked with the Roseville Area Superintendents and board members to form partnerships and improve the articulation and alignment of the Roseville High School programs and courses with the feeder elementary school districts. Therefore, I am knowledgeable about the needs of the Roseville Area and I have the confidence of the people that I represent.

As a superintendent and as a board member I have been active as a community leader and in professional organizations. I used the many valuable contacts that I made to benefit the Roseville High School District and now I am using them to benefit the Sierra Community College District.

The Sierra College District will be facing many challenges the next four years. One of them is to make sure that an adequate plan is developed and implemented to take care of infrastructure and growth needs. My experience in the Roseville JUHSD in planning and building new schools and remolding existing schools will be beneficial to the district.

As a trustee, I intend to make sure that the College continues to be run effectively and efficiently and that the needs of students have the highest priority.

Besides the above issues, the District needs to develop a grass roots approach to explain its needs and programs to increase public and tax payer support. If re-elected, I intend to address and promote these issues with my fellow board member, the college community and the public at large.

I feel that I have done a good job during my first four year and by becoming even more involved and learning more about student, faculty and community needs that I will do a better job the next four years if re-elected.

In all honesty, I have learned a lot about the differences between k-12 and the community college system. The one thing that is constant with all good educators is that they truly care about their students and believe that they can make a difference in the lives of their students. The thing that has impressed me the most since I have been on the board is the dedication to and caring of the Sierra College's faculty, classified staff , administration, and board for Sierra College and its students.

I haven't talked about my list of supporters, but I have a long list of them. A partial list includes: Ed Bonner, Placer County Sheriff, Bill Santucci , Rex Bloomfield and Robert Weygant, Placer County Supervisors, retired Placer County Supervisor Alex Ferreira, Bruce Dear, Placer County Assessor, Bud Nobili, Placer County Superintendent, Terry McAteer, Nevada County Superintendent, John Reinking ,Retired Placer County Superintendent, Jerry Angove, Retired President of Sierra College, a number of area superintendents, a number of local school board members, a number of past city council members and mayors, Jim Bush a past Sierra College board member, and present board members Dave Ferrari, Dave Creek, Dave Parker, and Barbara Vineyard

In summary, I believe that because of my experience, knowledge of the area, and devotion to public education that I am the most qualified and best candidate to represent the Roseville Area on the Sierra College Board of Trustees.
