Candidate for
Board Member; Laguna Beach Unified School District

WHY I AM SEEKING RE-ELECTION:

· The school board needs strong leadership with first-hand background, knowledge and understanding of critical teacher curriculum issues. I am endorsed by Laguna Beach parents, teachers, school district staff and community members.

· I am committed to leading Laguna Beach Unified School District to educate all students with solid skills in reading, writing and math, enhanced by broad curriculum exposure in science, social studies, computers and information science / technology and the arts, with the global goal of creating life long learners.

· I will provide leadership to keep this district on reliable and solid financial ground. Elected four years ago you entrusted me with the responsibilities of policy setting, financial accountability and curriculum oversight. The district's accomplishments will give you every confidence in re-electing me.

· The district's $25 million dollar budget is prudently allocated, the reserve is healthy and audits verify accountability. The $39 million dollar bond passed in 2001 affords us new and spectacularly modernized facilities and fields at all four schools. The projects were within budget, timely, and funding for repair and replacement is in place.

· New, challenging math and language arts textbook adoptions are keeping pace with increased demands for academic accomplishments including state standards and federal--No Child Left Behind mandates. I have worked on Quest for Excellence committees, academic depth, fitness/wellness and childhood capacity, curriculum council, and policy committee. Our district mission remains to allow each student to maximize his or her potential.

· I have served as Laguna Beach Unified School District Board President, prepared thoroughly for meetings, listened to and respected the views of the constituents and acted decisively.
