Political Philosophy for James H. "Jim" Tsutsui, Jr.
Candidate for |
My philosophy is that local government needs to take control back from the State and the Federal government to better meet the needs of its citizens. Just as we see local citizens come out of the woodwork and make-a-difference during times of tragedy or natural disasters, I believe that that community spirit and involvement can be inspired during times of peace. By allowing more and more citizen involvement, the problems and issues that face a city can be resolved with a human-touch, and with understanding, and communication. Government should always be of the people, by the people, and for the people. Government should never be self-serving, but meeting the needs of the many. Government office holders are both leaders and managers. They are responsible for providing inspiration, guidance, and compassionate listening for their constituents. Rather than just "pressing the flesh" or "walking among the precincts" during election years, this is a full-time endeavor. Government needs to be a public presence, making itself available to all, and ever present as a public figure. Being a politician works, when it they are being responsible and accountable for the whole, and listen for and speak for the whole community. |
