How we can bolster the budget.By Michael H. SimonsCandidate for Board Member; Huntington Beach Union High School District | |

Reduced spending and increases in income can supplement State and Federal funding.School districts are largely dependent on State and Federal funding for their budgets. We can bolster our budget by reducing expenses and increasing income to the District. We can reduce costs by a more prudent asset-management plan by moving off of our leased sites and onto facilites on district owned property. Another is to share facilities with other government agencies. Income can be generated by long-term land leases such as our agreement with the Home Depot. Currently, the District is looking at options for the property across from Seacliff Village Shopping Center that could generate long-term income. The District has also just started a program to recover monies from the State of California regarding Medi-Cal funds. Also, attention to attendance and truancy has recently been increased, through implementation of SARB (School Attendance Review Board)across our district, to improve State funding. |
