On moral, social and political issues...August 2004 Thank you for the warm welcome you have given me as a new member of the Republican Party. In the 54 years I spent as a Democrat, I have never experienced this type of support. On moral, social and political issues, I found myself in agreement with the Republican platform. I found that I could no longer support the Democratic platform's stand on certain moral issues. Furthermore, I support the war on terrorism and believe that it would be a disaster to give in to their threats and withdraw. I disagree with the idea that burdening our citizens with new taxes can revitalize the nation's economy by merely "throwing money" at the problem. It will require an efficient, fiscally conservative approach to turn our economy around. I have a strong belief that local city and county governments should control their own resources and take care of the people they represent. We are at a political, moral and economic crossroad and the choices we make in November will affect the lives of every American. I believe that this is a crucial race that the Republicans must win at every level of government. I am thrilled that I was asked to become a part of the strong and active group of Republican Women in Orange County. In the future, I look forward to participating in many of your programs and activities. Sincerely, MARGIE L. RICE Mayor, City of Westminster |
