Kim Supports

Students as 21st Century Citizens: Educational achievement must go beyond raising standardized test scores. Schools must also provide students with multiple opportunities to develop high communicative competency, creativity, technology proficiency and critical thinking to become active participants in a democratic society. More project-based learning and less emphasis on standardized test scores will better prepare our children to become 21st Century Citizens.

Teacher as Caring Professionals: Teachers must be treated as caring professionals whose responsibilities are not limited to test preparation and transferring of knowledge but also include inspiring and challenging students to become academically prepared and life-long learners. Teachers must have decision-making power in curriculum and instruction and also be supported to advance their professional knowledge and skills to meet the needs of ALL students.

Parents and Community as Educational Partners: Parents are their children's first teachers and strongest advocates for their success. Regardless of parents' backgrounds, we all want our children to become happy and productive citizens for America's future. Schools must increase their effort to provide more responsive outreach to parents and communities to bring them in as partners to collaborate toward our common goal.
