Ingrid McGuire Ingrid Elisabeth Johanna McGuire visited the United States as a Fulbright exchange student from Austria. While in the United States, she met her husband-to-be, James McGuire. They were later married in Graz, Austria. In 1955, Ingrid immigrated to the United States, and in 1958 she became a citizen. Ingrid graduated from Ohio State University with a B.A. in Chemistry. She worked in the Research Division on Monsanto Chemical Company for several years. Subsequently, she worked under a research grant for the University of Washington in Seattle. Because of her husband's work in the Defense Industry, Ingrid has lived and made a home in the suburbs of Dayton, Ohio; New York City; Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. She also experienced life as a western woman in Saigon, Vietnam from 1969 to 1975. As a member of the U.S. Embassy-sponsored American Women's Club, Ingrid worked as a volunteer at the Barsky Unit for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She bolstered the morale of Vietnamese children who had been badly burned or who suffered from Noma, a cancer of the face. Ingrid and her late husband, an executive with McDonnell Douglas Corporation, moved to Monarch Bay Terrace, Monarch Beach, in 1979. Civic activities and involvement in local government have consumed much of Ingrid's time since moving to Orange County. These include: Charter Council Woman, City of Dana Point (elective office); Director, South Coast Water District (elective office); President, Monarch Bay Terrace Property Owners Association; President, Dana Point Woman's Club, GFWC; Charter Member, Women's Advisory Council, South Coast Medical Center; Member, Auxiliary of South Coast Medical Center; President, Friends of the Dana Niguel Library; Former Chair, Friends of the Salt Creek |
