HOW DO WE INCREASE CITY REVENUES

By Paul G. Glaab

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Laguna Niguel

This information is provided by the candidate
The first place I will look for additional revenues is in the current city budget. Prudent business practices require an annual audit of all on-going city expenses, with a keen eye to ensuring each expense item is truly necessary. Tailoring excess expenses may easily generate revenues that could be applied to more pressing city priorities.

When local governments foster an environment favorable for the expansion of private business, the city enjoys a measurable growth. I believe we can improve the business climate by working more closely with businesses. I plan to ensure our Chamber of Commerce has an active voice before the City Council and business leaders can count upon the Council to explore expansion ideas. I know a business minded City Council can certainly generate new revenues.

I intend to fully explore the business opportunities in the Gateway Project area at the 5 Freeway and Crown Valley Parkway. While mindful of the traffic implications in this area, the Gateway Project can provide the City with an increase in revenues if planned properly. I will ensure the appropriate level of review is applied.

With the proper application of private and public cooperation, we can be more successful in attracting new businesses to our City. The quality of life enjoyed by our residents dictates such new commercial enterprises be environmentally appropriate, provide quality jobs and contribute to the overall local economy. To attract such entities I would favor considering strategic public/private partnerships.
