Fullerton Mayor Mike Clesceri was elected to his first four-year Council term in November 2000, appointed Mayor Pro Tem in December 2002 and Mayor in December 2003. Mayor Clesceri, a longtime Fullerton resident, retired from law enforcement in May 2004 as Assistant Chief Investigator of the Criminal Division for the Orange County District Attorney's Office, fulfilling a 20-year career. Prior to joining the D.A.'s Office, he served for 16 years in law enforcement, starting with the La Palma Police Department in 1983. In 1985, he joined the Tustin Police Department, where he served until January 1999 when he joined the District Attorney's Office. Active in the community, Mayor Clesceri is a founding member and President of the Laguna Road Support Our School Foundation, a member of the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce, and has served for seven years as a coach with Golden Hill Little League Baseball. He is a former Public School Junior Achievement instructor; a former member of the Legislative Committee of the California Police Officers' Association; a member of the Public Safety Advisory Committee for the 68th Assembly District; a member of Congressman Ed Royce's Expert Panel on Terrorism. Mayor Clesceri also serves as the City Council's representative to the Orange County Transportation Committee, the Orange County Growth Management Authority, the City's Investment Advisory Committee and the Fullerton Sister City Association. He is the City's alternate representative to both the Orange County Council of Governments and the Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency. He previously served as the Council representative to the City's Sports Field Users Committee. Awards received by Mayor Clesceri include a Medal of Merit in 1995 for his role in saving the life of a fellow Tustin police officer during an officer-involved shooting. He was also named "Officer of the Year" in 1988 by the Rotary Club, and the City of Tustin Police Department's "Officer of the Year" in 1988 and 1989. Mayor Clesceri was born in Lynwood. He has an educational background in administration of justice and business and management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business and management from the University of Phoenix, and is also a graduate of the Southwest FBI Command College. Mayor Clesceri and his wife, Michelle, a Deputy District Attorney, have four sons: Nicholas, Vinny, Stephen and Dominic.
