Permanently Silence the Train Whistles & Solve the Train Traffic ProblemsBy Scott P. BradyCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Placentia | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Currently 70 trains pass through our city each day, blaring there whistles and snarling traffic. It is estimated that over 150 frieght and Metrolink trains will rumble through our city, daily, within 20 years. We can do nothing and let our streets become paralyzed by these trains, or we can invest in the permanent solutions to this issue. This City Counsel has invested substantially in permanently silencing the whistles with a quiet zone measure that should be in place next year and is seeking funding for underpasses and overpasses at our major intersections throughout the city. The Melrose Underpass will be complete in December and Bradford Avenue will be closed to through traffic. The state has authorized another $12 million to commerce with the Placentia Underpass. We are currently requesting of the Federal Government an additional $200 million to fund grade seperations at our other major intersections. If we do nothing, this city will be severed in half by train traffic and our quality of life will suffer immensly. We must continue to seek funding for this project. |
