Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Joseph "Joe" Aiello, Jr.

Candidate for
Mayor; City of Monterey

This information is provided by the candidate

Political power is truly in the hands of our neighborhood associations. In a democracy citizens are best served by representative government. Having 6 council districts consisting of 2 to 3 neighborhoods is a democratic imperative and priciple. District elections will make our city coucilmembers more accountable to its neighborhoods. Capital improvement money should be evenly allocated to all neighborhoods whether or not an actually association is formed representing the neighborhood. There are commercial areas without neighborhood representation. Business Improvement Districts are not represented within the framework of the Neighborhood Improvement Program. The current NIP is in jeopardy as the city spends more money for city employee benefits and fire/police safety.
