Years of experience teaching in a classroom and working with parents equals the background and knowledge to make common sense decisions to insure the best education possible for all children in the Bakersfield City Schools.There is no more worthy pursuit than that of helping our children prepare for the future. A child who enters the educational maze our schools have become and stumbles out years later still lacking basic skills has little chance of achieving success in an increasingly competitive world. I want the school district to concentrate its limited budget on its primary charge: providing the best education possible for each child. My goal is to do all that I can to achieve that commendable cause. I was born and raised in this community. I attended Williams Elementary and Washington Junior High in the Bakersfield City School District. After graduating from East Bakersfield High School, I attended Bakersfield College and California State University, Fresno. I began teaching in the Bakersfield City School District at McKinley Elementary School. I continued to gain insight and experience with various aspects of education by teaching at Washington Junior High, East Bakersfield High School, Nueva Continuation School, and as a traveling fifth grade science teacher. The majority of my teaching career was spent at Chipman Junior High where I taught Social Science, Physical Science and coached basketball. Later, I earned a Masters Degree in Educational Management and served as the vice principal at Chipman for two years. I retired in 2001. During the 35 years of my career in education I have seen many changes in our schools and have acquired a wealth of experience that I believe will serve the parents, teachers, and students of the Bakersfield City School District. I would greatly appreciate your vote on November 2nd. |
