Candidate for
Board Member; Delano Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate

Romeo Agbalog, Jr. was born and raised in Delano. A life-long resident of our community, he attended local area schools and graduated from Delano High School. As the son of farm worker parents, Romeo learned the value of hard work and the importance of a quality education at an early age. During summers off from school, Romeo would join his father at work to earn money to fund his college education.

As a parent, Romeo is concerned about our children's education. This is why Romeo is running for the Delano Elementary School Board. Romeo wants to make sure our children can read, write and are provided with the tools they need to suceed.

Romeo pledges to be an accessible and accountable Board Member. He'll frequently visit our schools to better understand the issues that are affecting our teachers and students. Romeo will work hard to find common sense solutions to challenges the district may face, always with our children as his main focus.

As the District Representative for Kern County Supervisor Jon McQuiston, Romeo has the experience to get the job done. He is responsible for the Northern Kern County portion of a district that spans over 2,500 square miles and includes the communities of Delano, McFarland and Shafter. Romeo helped facilitate a donation of surplus county computers to migrant students. He also worked to bring funding to improve the condition and safety of Browning Road in Delano, a road with two new schools on it.

A natural leader, Romeo was appointed to the City of Delano's Public Transportation Commission. He was one of the youngest members to have ever been appointed to that position. Romeo serves on the Board of Directors of the Delano College Center Foundation, a board that manages and distributes thousands of dollars in scholarships to local area students to help them pay for college. Romeo was also appointed to a Local Selective Service Board, a position Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger nominated him to.

Romeo has a son, Christian, who attends school in the district. Romeo attends Bakersfield College and Cerro Coso College and is a Political Science major.
