Traffic Congestion in Pleasanton.

By Jerry T. Thorne, P.E.

Candidate for Council Member; City of Pleasanton

This information is provided by the candidate
Traffic congestion problems in Pleasanton MUST be solved. The decisions made MUST reflect a comprehensive, community wide impact analysis as well as cost/benefit analysis.
The city of Pleasanton should support local and regional highway/roadway improvement projects that improve mobility, improve circulation, reduce congestion, improve safety and generally benefit the ENTIRE COMMUNITY OF PLEASANTON and the region as a whole. The Pleasanton City Council is obligated to support and CONTINUE TO PLAN for projects that accomplish these things.

The City Council is further obligated to keep an open mind without predetermining positions on traffic issues and consider the broader impacts of improvements on the ENTIRE COMMUNITY. The promises of the past should also be an important part of the decision making process.

In the final analysis, improvement projects will need to be prioritized and implemented, as funding becomes available. The City Council and City staff will need to place a high priority on finding alternative funding sources and represent the city at the state and federal level to make sure we receive a fair share of funding resources in our region and city.

Fiscally responsible decision is absolutely essential and our regional and local dollars must be spent on projects that have the greatest impact on the movement of traffic.

THE CITY COUNCIL MUST BE WILLING TO LISTEN WITH AN OPEN MIND.
