I believe that when struggling with a question of social policy if you ask yourself, "What course of action would produce the greatest good for the greatest nember of people," you will probably get the best answer.
I see government as that necessary co-operation among people to do for people what they cannot do for themselves. For example, build a road, a school or a water system. Also, protect public health, provide for our defense and preserve the ecosystem for future generations. We must always think about the long term effect of a policy when considering its moral implications.
I look for solutions to reduce waste, balance the budget and make government fairer. I believe we should encourage coporate and public responsibility and work to bring Americans together while respecting their traditions and diversity. I also believe in religious freedom and ensuring that freedom by separation of church and state.
