Questions & Answers

1. What does California need to do to address the current budget crisis?

Comprehensive tax reform to include a revision of the inequitable property tax system that allows major corporations to pay far less than their share.

2. What should the state's priorities be for K-12 education? For the Community College System?

Full funding under Prop. 98 provisions for K-12 and the Community College system, plus funding for increasing teacher's salaries substantially.

3. What measures would you support to address California's water needs?

Long-range planning. I believe in "20/20 Vision" , planning for the future to ensure our needs are met. The plans of the 1960s helped fuel California's phenomenal growth. We need to have this kind of vision for not only continual growth, but the kind of growth that will be protective of the environment and that will provide jobs for our citizens.

4. What should the Legislature be doing to address the needs of Californians without health insurance?

As the country's largest state, I believe we should embark on a single-payer system of health care. I also believe we can provide a basic coverage health plan for all Californians at relatively modest cost to individuals of lower income.
