1. What can be done to ensure that California gets its fair share of federal resources?
|
Answer from Renn A. Vara:
We have to work together across party and ideological lines to secure needed funds for projects of importance to all Californians. The current political tone in Washington must change. The only way to do that is to stop demonizing each other and find common ground. We need to focus on making progress rather continuing politics as usual. It's the people not our political survival that should rule the day.
2. What are your foreign policy priorities for the United States?
|
Answer from Renn A. Vara:
We must get the U.N. into Iraq. We must internationize the rebuilding. Our foreign policy must be focused on seeking understanding and/or isolating problem countries, not rushing to war. We must beef up programs of international support, ie the Peace Corps. It may take longer than militarily taking over a country, but it will provide greater stability over the long run.
3. What are your priorities for the federal budget?
|
Answer from Renn A. Vara:
Domestic security, focused on education, infrastructure investment, public service programs, and campaign reform. We must change the way we do business and realize that funding only military exploits will not secure our nation.
