Dennis was born just outside of Washington D.C. He moved to San Francisco for school and to try something different. Immediately he fell in love with the city's beauty, culture, and diversity. He began volunteering at a youth-run program called Drama Divas. Soon after, his volunteer experience caused a snowball effect. He soon realized that he can be an instrument of change and began volunteering hundreds of hours each year at various non-profit agencies. Through his community work he learned how to be an effective organizer, leader, and community advocate.

He was a consultant to the first "Youth Empowerment Conference" in San Francisco. Soon after he organized several national youth conferences. He took on the role of coordinating logistics, transportation, food, housing, and creating a resource guide for conference participants that were new to the city. Not only did he help organized but also presented several workshops on issues such as organizing, inter racial dating, and creating support for youth.

In 1997 Supervisor Gavin Newsom selected Dennis as his appointment to the San Francisco Youth Commission where he served two successful terms. While on the commission, Dennis worked diligently with the teacher's union and the school district to secure a pay raise for teachers. He also co-authored legislation, participated in community hearings, and worked closely with Supervisor Newsom on homeless and substance abuse issues. His other political work includes the successful election of then attorney Kay Tsenin to the Municipal Court Judge bench. While on the campaign he helped coordinated volunteers and fundraisers for the campaign. Later he worked as an intern in then Supervisor Susan Leal's office where he provided office support and maintained constituency relationship.

In 2000 Dennis ran for San Francisco Supervisor in District 6. As the youngest of 17 candidates, he ran a progressive and grass-roots campaign. Dennis remains active in the community and politics, working on many issues. Currently he serves as Vice President on the North of Market Planning Coalition (NOMPC) and Administrative Officer for the Alliance for a Better District 6.
