A long time supporter of public safety, education and the environment, Stephany Aguilar was first elected in 1996 to the Scotts Valley City Council. Stephany has served two terms as mayor and also served eight years on the Parks and Recreation Commission, where she assisted in writing the parks master plan. Immediately after her election, Stephany formed the Scotts Valley Advocates, a not for profit corporation, to assist financially in implementing Scotts Valley's parks master plan. Along with raising thousands of dollars for various parks and recreation projects, Stephany has assisted in raising over $470,000 in donations and building materials for the Scotts Valley Skate Park.

Stephany has represented Santa Cruz County on local, regional and statewide boards. She is the past president of the League of California Cities, Monterey Bay Division and is playing a key role in shaping new legislation. Stephany served on the Fiscal Reform Steering Committee and currently is working with the committee on a California constitutional amendment (http://www.citipac.org). The "Local Taxpayers and Public Safety Protection Act," will appear on the November 2004 ballot. The objective of the constitutional amendment will be to protect City, County and Special District funding from State raids.

As an Executive Board Member and past president of the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments, Stephany worked closely with the State Housing and Community Development Department on Santa Cruz County's Housing Allocation. Stephany also organized workshops to provide elected officials with up to date information on jobs/housing balances along with environmental and agricultural issues. Stephany is the current second vice president of the Mayors and Council Members Department of the League of California Cities, where she organizes and coordinates confrences and workshops for elected officials.

An advocate of community involvement, Stephany is the past president of the Exchange Club of Scotts Valley, where she assisted in raising thousands of dollars for human care agencies, youth organizations and education. Stephany has also been a keynote speaker at many local service clubs and organizations. Along with her many community activities, Stephany served on the Boards of the:

Stephany is a thirty-three year resident of Santa Cruz County. Her twenty-five years of professional and community service in education, public safety, recreation and public policy would not be possible without the support of her husband, Ed, who is a firefighter and her two sons, Jesse and Nathan.
