An Open Letter From William J. Monahan

To Santa Clara County Residents and My Loyal Supporters:

I am asking that you grant me the privilege of being your judge. I have dedicated my entire 20 year career to the practice of law. The law is my passion and I would be honored to be elected to the highest position of my profession. I am willing to leave my private practice and devote my life to public service for this community.

I am a lawyer, not a politician. I am the only candidate who is not accepting monetary contributions. I owe no favors. A judge must be fair and unbiased.

I am running on my qualifications, not political connections. I am not seeking to buy this seat. Unfortunately, some judicial campaigns have become focused on raising and spending money to influence voters, rather than the qualifications of the candidates. For example, since entering this race, I have been bombarded with solicitations for slate mailers, telemarketing, and e-mail firms that will automatically endorse and market candidates for money. I strongly believe that this is not the way that you should select your judge.

A judge should be selected based on his or her experience, competence, case management ability, fairness, and ethics. I strongly believe that I am the most qualified candidate.

I have been handling litigation in Santa Clara County for 20 years. Over the years I have handled complex pleadings, discovery, motions, temporary restraining orders, injunctions, court and jury trials, appeals, mediations and arbitrations, in addition to being a judge pro tem and arbitrator. It takes years of dedicated practice to master these skills. As your judge, I will be able to manage and decide complicated legal issues with expertise.

As your judge, I will be fair and unbiased to all people of the community. I will decide cases based on the evidence and the law. I will treat everyone with dignity and respect.
