Charles currently serves as the Director of the California Environmental Dialogue, a plenary of thirty environmental policy leaders in the State of California. The members hail from business, government and non profit organizations, and use dialogue techniques to reach policy recommendations for legislation, briefings and papers. Charles has served as a management consultant in corporate sustainability for the past 15 years, and brings a professional background in environmental management systems, corporate finance and economics. He's been active recently in merging sustainability frameworks with planning for land use, economic development, transportation, equity, and public health issues. Charles serves as the representative for Division 4 (Mill Valley, Corte Madera, Larkspur and Kentfield) on the Board of the Marin Municipal Water District and is the Vice Chair of the Marin County Economic Commission. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Sustainable Conservation, City CarShare, Sierra Club Marin Group, the Marin Conservation League (Vice President), the Environmental Education Council of Marin, and Sustainable Mill Valley. He holds an MBA and Public Management Certificate from Stanford University and a BA in English Literature from Yale College. Both degrees were awarded with honors. He lives with his wife Carol in Mill Valley, and is a 5th Generation Californian with a deep love of this land. |
