Noah Griffin, endorsed by United States Senator Dianne Feinstein, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and others, is a candidate for Supervisor representing Marin County's 3rd district which includes Belvedere, Marin City, Mill Valley, Tam Valley, Sausalito, Strawberry and Tiburon. He is a native Californian whose involvement in government spans thirty years. A resident of Mill Valley, he and his family, wife Cindy and children Noah, Mark, Taylor and Alex feel lucky to be surrounded by the 3rd District's natural beauty and parks. A public policy advisor and writer, Noah has served as Press Secretary to San Francisco Mayor Frank Jordan, Legislative aide to Dianne Feinstein, Statewide Deputy Campaign Director for President Clinton and Public Affairs Director for Charles Schwab. He serves on a number of boards of Marin civic organizations including Fair Housing of Marin, Bread & Roses, Legal Aid of Marin and the California Mentor Foundation. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School, Fisk University and was a Yale University history fellow and Coro Public Affairs fellow in the Bay Area. Noah's entry into government and political life came early. His parents, Noah and Terressa Griffin moved to California in the 1940's when Noah's father was asked to organize the West Coast states for the fledgling NAACP. Noah Sr. was the son of an emancipated slave and went on to become a teacher and school administrator, and later an early civil rights pioneer. He successfully won a court battle in the state of Florida in a fight to equalize the pay of black teachers to that of white teachers. In that fight, he was represented by a young Thurgood Marshall, later to become the first black member of the U.S. Supreme Court. Noah's parents chose San Francisco's Richmond district to raise their family. Noah graduated from Washington High School was named youth mayor of San Francisco and spent the day with then Mayor George Christopher. Following law school, Noah was appointed by Mayor Joe Alioto to the Mayor's Council on Criminal Justice and later by Mayor Dianne Feinstein to the Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Commission in what was to launch a career in public affairs working in government, national politics and in the media as a talk show host and writer. Noah has been a resident of Marin County for more than twenty years and has lived in Mill Valley for the last fourteen. |
