Three Strikes LawBy Stella L. Owens-MurrellCandidate for Superior Court Judge; County of Los Angeles; Office 111 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Position On Amending Three Strikes You're Out LawBecause the law as it is currently written is so overly broad in the types of offenses that can count as a strike, repeat offenders are subject to serving lengthy sentences where convicted for the commission of a non violent felony offense. Moreover, the three strikes statute has statistically had a disproportinately adverse effect on indigent and minority defendants. Legislation is necessary to limit the application of the law to strikes for a series of violent felony offenses only. |
