I was born in Long Beach, California in 1954. I attended Los Angeles Public Schools until I went to college. I graduated from Venice High School where I lettered in tennis and was co-editor of the high school year book. I then went to college and graduated from California StateUniversity, Northridge and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in United States History. My course of study had a special emphasis on the American Colonial Period and Revolution. After college, I attended Southwestern School of Law and where I graduated with a Juris Doctor degree. While in law school, I won the American Jurisprudence Book Award in wills and trusts. While in high school and college, I held various jobs including being a bus boy at a local Piece of Pizza, a supermarket box boy, shelf stocking, and checker. I then worked at the May Compay as a sales clerk. After my first year of law school, I was a law clerk at a civil firm specializing in insurance defense work (Roper & Folino), in the mid-Wilshire district. Upon graduation from law school and passing the California bar in 1980, I joined the same firm I clerked for as an associate attorney. During my tenure at Roper and Folino, I litigated civil cases involving personnel injury. In 1983, I married my wife Stephanie. We have 2 daughters Miriam and Rachel. Ages 17 & 14 and our cat Cleopatra. In 1985, I left the firm and joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office. |
