Arguments For Measure S
The Shingle Springs Fire Station is in severe disrepair. It is nearly 40 years old. The foundation is crumbling and the soil under the site is eroding causing the building to shift and separate from the foundation. This station provides the primary fire protection and emergency medical service to the areas of Shingle Springs, South Cameron Estates and Cambridge Oaks. It is staffed every day 24/7, 365 days a year with a two-person engine company. We cannot afford to lose this facility. We must replace the station or commence major repairs as soon as possible. We urge you to stop by the fire station located at 3860 Ponderosa Road and talk with the Firefighters on duty about the condition of this building. We do not need a fancy building, but we need one that is safe and operational. The current District finances do not provide adequate funding for this type of renovation. Most of the other areas within the El Dorado County Fire Protection District pay an additional tax such as this to improve the service in their area. That is why we are asking you, the residents of Shingle Springs, South Cameron Estates and Cambridge Oaks to help finance the rebuilding of the station that serves you. After the station has been rebuilt, the funds will be used to improve the staffing level at this station to include Advanced Life Support Paramedics. By law, the money is committed to this purpose. It cannot be used for anything but to rebuild the fire station and to provide Paramedic staffing at your fire station. We urge you to approve this measure to rebuild Station 28 and provide Advanced Life Support Paramedic service.
