Political Philosophy for Jeevan Zutshi

Goals: A Clean Start for USD, A clean Environment, Low rates, Highest quality service, Financial stability, Fair billing, planning for future. This election will give Fremont a fair representation. I wish to list some issues which I plan to address as follows: 1.Financial Stability: Lots of business has left the area in the past 3 years. Dreyer Ice Cream recently announced a closure. They used lots of water and lots of sewage capacity. Once they leave, they don't pay for service, and USD doesn't make money. Revenues drop- the economic situation is unstable. As a member of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, I will work to attract businesses to the area. I have been working with local leaders on the Pacific Commons project off Automall in Fremont, which will be a tremendous boom for Fremont, and also USD with lots of new sewage hook ups. 2.Successive Planning: USD, like every other place, has an aging work force. As the force grows older, young men and women are not going into the trades. This creates a problem for our area, a safety problem since we need to have trained plumbers, and other workers to build and maintain the system. Currently USD is training young people in house to replace the aging work force. I will also work with Silicon Valley College, DeVry, Ohlone College and other institutions to train and attract new employees. I have long- term plans for the system to ensure workers, who will be compensated well, in the future, which will preserve a safe and dependable environment. 3.Bio Solid Problem: When you process sewage you have an after product, sludge now referred to as bio solid. USD has a two-year contract with the Central Valley. I will work to see that a new long-term disposal contract is entered. Solano County has recently announced they will no longer accept other cities' bio solid. Where do you take it? I will work on the USD subcommittee to see a new contract is reached so the system continues to work smoothly. 4.Wet weather problems: The storm system, which is the rainwater in our gutters, and sewage systems run side by side. When too much rain falls in our arid area, the sewage system has had problems of overflowing because it doesn't have the capacity to hold all the additional water. In Irvington, the storm system has been modified to collect some of this additional water, and prevent a back up, or overflow in the water treatment system. We need additional improvements in the system to ensure safety and proper processing of the wastewater. 5.Everyone must pay their fair share: USD has recently learned that Newark school district illegally hooked up to the system without paying the normal fees during the recent school construction. The school district now has an additional $6 million in reserves but refuses to pay USD for the hook up charge. Everyone must pay their fair share to have their sewage treated. Currently, the Newark school is getting free sewage treatment. The appointed incumbent has not demanded a correction of the situation, while Fremont residents pay for Newark. I believe no one - even a school should get free sewage when all the normal working tax payers and business pay their fair share for sewage . The school district must pay. I will check and see how many more Newark businesses, or schools, or government building are getting free sewage treatment while we pay full price.
In addition, I will look at the wages, pension plans and benefits of each and every employee to see if it is compatible with the industry standards and fight for their rights. |
