Position Papers
Library Service
My goals are to extend Hayward Library service hours, build a larger Main Library, and create additional branches located in underserved areas of the city.
Smart Growth
The state of California requires all communities to allow housing growth and sets a target for each community as to how much growth to allow. I favor meeting Hayward's target with transit-oriented housing along major transit corridors while preserving the integrity of current neighborhoods and preserving wildlife species. I oppose building further up into the hills or nearer the shoreline than the projects already approved for development. We must save our creeks and other wild places.
Building Stronger Partnerships between the City and the Schools
I support services for youth and the schools as a top priority. In its normal operations, the Hayward Library serves more youth than any other city program. My goal is to increase the collaboration between the library and the schools. I also strongly support the Youth and Family Services Bureau, which combines youth counseling with programs to stop kids from joining gangs, and also works to prevent domestic violence and child abuse.
