We have survived the State of California's taking of over 70 million dollars in the last 10 years and with the same expertise and creativity, we will surmount this current economic downturn. Sacrifices will be made by all, but public safety and core services will not be compromised.
The city council had the foresight to place 23 million dollars into reserves for economic downturn. This is the kind of experienced budgeting that will allow us to survive a very deep state induced crisis. I was a part of the city council that brought renewed ecvitality in the mid 1990's after a deep nationwide recession. I have the experience to do it again. We will have renewed efforts to pursue federal grants, across the board all employees including the mayor and council will make sacrifices, move some capitol projects out to future years and get some of our funds back from Sacramento. These policies along with an aggressive economic development platform particularly in our downtown and our industrial area containing over 40 biotech and biomedical companies, will allow Hayward to no only survive this downturn, but be an industry leader in the very biomed and biotech arena mentioned above. Public safety and core service must be protected.
