A joint effort between City Council and the CPS Board is an important link in implementing quality services to our schools and communities.
The traditional relationship between the School Board and City Council has been one of isolation. However, the City Council and the CPS School Board have recently met in two joint sessions and the City Council has formed an Education Committee. The relationship is becoming stronger and more positive. As a former educator and as a citizen, I realize that the overall health and well-being of the city is dependent upon strengthening the education of our citizens. Services provided by the city and the School Board are interconnected and as a Board Member, I will work diligently to strengthen the relationship and to form more coalitions between City Council and the School Board to reduce the drop out rate, to access more services from the community to strengthen mentoring programs to our students and schools and to jointly create community resource centers within each new and renovated school.
