What long-range non-traditonal methods for school funding would you suggest

By Deborah M. Allsop

Candidate for Board Member; Wyoming City School District

This information is provided by the candidate
A non-traditional long term strategy which could be considered is increasing support of the Wyoming School Foundation through planned giving and creating endowments for academic, athletic or any area of school life.
Wyoming City Schools have had strong financial support from our community with the School District Income tax, operating as well as capital improvement levies and school based support from the Wyoming Boosters, Music and Parent School Associations. A non-traditional long term strategy which could be considered is increasing support of the Wyoming School Foundation through planned giving and creating endowments for academic, athletic or any area of school life. For example, a Chair for Science Endowment could offset costs of equipment, textbooks, field trips and other related costs of operating this subject area. The Wyoming Board of Education adopted a Strategic Plan in April 2003 that identifies other non-traditional approaches for long term school financing which should be carefully considered during the implementation phase of that plan.
