Guide to the Future of the San Bruno Park School DistrictBy Chuck Zelnik, Jr.Candidate for Board Member; San Bruno Park Elementary School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My name is Charles "Chuck" Zelnik and I am running for re-election to the San Bruno Park School Board. I've lived in San Bruno for the past 17 years with my wife Susan and our two children CJ and Amanda. For the past 13 years, I've been actively involved with schools and educational issues, and I am committed to working towards quality education for all the children of our community. I was the chief petitioner for the annexation of Portola Highlands, Pacific Heights and SpyGlass communities into the San Bruno Park School District. This goal was finally accomplished in the 2000 school year with no increase cost to the taxpayers of San Bruno. As your school board trustee, I have worked tirelessly to ensure the school district provides a positive learning experience for your child. Together we must understand how each child learns so that every student benefits equally from what our dedicated teachers have to offer. You have entrusted this district with your most precious possession and we must not let you down. We also must improve discipline in our schools. I believe discipline is an essential ingredient in creating a quality learning environment. With discipline comes self-confidence and respect, not only for others, but also most importantly for one's self. In addition, we must find ways to bring back extra curricular programs which have been taken away from present and future generations. During my tenure on the school board, I proposed generating additional funding through public/private partnerships. Currently, the board is pursuing this avenue. I will continue my efforts with the school board to ensure that the dream of reinstating these programs becomes a reality. We also need to look at our school district properties and find ways to increase our income from them. Passing more school bonds should not be a first choice, rather a last resort. Together we can build a better district for the benefit of our students. I am honored that the citizens of San Bruno Park School District have placed their trust in me, and I respectfully ask for your vote to continue to bring about positive changes in order to ensure a quality education for every child. |
