Born in San Francisco, raised in San Mateo County, I have lived on the same block in El Granada for over 31 years. I went through the public schools system, culminating with a Master's Degree in Anthropology from San Francisco State University.

I have been a practicing archaeologist for over 30 years, mostly focused on prehistoric work--that is, Native American Indian sites--but have also worked on large historic projects like the restoration of Crissy Field in the Presidio of San Francisco. As an archaeologist, I have managed projects large (million dollar budgets) and small (including free/volunteer work when needed) for the last 27 years. Since the cultural environment, including archaeological resources, are covered by CEQA and many Federal laws, I'm familiar with the environmental impact assessment and protection laws.

Managing projects, I've had to deal with tight budgets, staffing and personnel issues, and very disparate interest groups, including developers, bureaucrats, environmentalists and preservationist, Native Americans, permitting agencies, etc. Finding a balance between all these interests is what modern "cultural resource management" requires, and I'll bring the same effort to working with everyone effected by or bringing issues to the GSD.
