Political Philosophy for Jim Reid

Citizen Statesman like Ben Franklin My favorite quote is by Margaret Mead because it says it all for me. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead We need to take full responsibility for the world we live in because no one else is going to. Our political system is corrupted by money and we need to turn this around in the next 20 years by having public financing of all political campaigns with strict limits on how much money any candidate can spend. We cannot limit how much people can give but we could limit spending. When the banking industry can contribute a few million dollars to key members of Congress and the President to pass legislation that allows banks to overcharge their poor customers with high interest rates, overdraft charges and bank policies that ruin their credit and cause some people to become homeless; this is pure political corruption and it is unethical and immoral. The Banking industry makes billions of dollars off working people by making millions of dollars in contributions to political campaigns. No state of local government can over rule these federal laws to protect their own citizens locally, and this is very wrong. Only with a level playing field where all qualified candidates have equal funding and equal access to news media will voters have a clear choice and no longer have to vote for the lesser of two evils. |
